2019 The Beautiful Hair For Your Wedding Day
Most hair stylists specialize in haircuts, coloring, perming or styling. There is no "up-do" training given in order to obtain a cosmetology license. Cosmetologists are only taught a style known as the French twist, in order to become licensed. Hairdressers could seek out additional training on special occasion and wedding hairstyling, but such courses would have to be taken on their own time and at their own expense. With today's ever-changing looks, one would have to continually update their training in order to keep up with popular styles and trends. Of course some people possess natural talent but the truth is, few hairstylists really are qualified at doing bridal hair. Additionally, finding a stylist who knows how to work with bridal veils and headpieces may be harder than you think.
Most hairdressers have done wedding up-dos, but only a small percentage of them actually specialize in it. Figuring out how to create an up-do may not be so hard, but creating one that is beautiful and long wearing takes training, talent and experience! Most often a bride's regular stylist will not refer her to another stylist who is more talented at performing up-dos, even if they dislike doing hair for weddings or have little experience at it. A stylist does not want to risk losing their clients business on that day and possibly forever!
As professional makeup artist, I've seen far too many brides get mad, upset, and even occasionally hysterical before walking down the aisle because they hate the hairstyle that their usual hair stylist gave them. Because of this, I've learned to warn all my bridal clients of this situation.
There is an easy way to discover if a hairstylist with wedding tiara has what it takes to please brides on their special day. I suggest they ask a friend to contact the salon and ask the receptionist who is the best at doing wedding hairstyling. If their stylist is not the name they are told, then start asking for referrals. On several occasions I've had brides follow my instructions, only to book their regular stylist anyway. In these instances, I encouraged them to get a preview appointment, just to be safe. Then when they hated their hairstyle, they now had to deal with the drama of either hurting their stylists' feelings or settling for bad hair. Let's face it, the most important thing on a brides wedding day is that they feel beautiful. That means ensuring that she loves her hair, makeup and wedding gown.
